What is Recovery Time Objective (RTO)?
A Recovery Time Objective (RTO) is the maximum acceptable length of time a business process or system can be down before the impact becomes unacceptable.
RTO answers 'how fast must we be back?'. It must always be shorter than the Maximum Tolerable Period of Disruption (MTPD). If recovery would take longer than the RTO, you need a faster strategy — failover, redundancy, or a manual workaround.
Resilira derives each process's RTO from its BIA rather than asking you to guess: it sets the RTO to the horizon just before impact becomes severe.
