Glossary
What is Disaster Recovery (DR)?
Disaster Recovery (DR) is the subset of business continuity focused on restoring IT systems, applications and data after a disruptive event.
DR is IT-centric (servers, networks, databases, applications); business continuity is broader and covers people, facilities, suppliers and processes. DR plans live inside an overall BCM program.
A DR plan is only as good as its last test. Disaster recovery testing — tabletop, walkthrough, or full failover — is what turns a document into a capability, and is increasingly required by auditors and regulators.
